DESIGNER : Philippe Starck

MANUFACTURER : XO

The Dr. Sonderbar chair was designed by the famous designer Starck in 1983, for the publisher XO. According to the designer, it is an example of the stage of accession to design. A kind of extravagant phase that allowed to re-interest people in design. Philippe Starck himself admits that it is not really possible to sit on it.
This access to design is completed by the fact that it is not only intended for a wealthy clientele. Through this piece, he seeks to democratize socially recognizable furniture.

The name of the model refers to " Docteur Sonderbar ", character of the science fiction novel Ubik written by Philip K. Dick. This piece has an airy and pure look and is made of a tubular structure in chromed steel.
