Ettore Sottsass (1917-2007)


Ettore Sottsass was born in 1917. He is an Italian designer and architect. From 1935 to 1939, he studied at the Polytechnic Institute of Turin. After the war, in 1947, he opened his own agency in Milan: The Studio. Ten years later, he was hired as artistic director at Poltronova, where he began creating furniture. The following year, he joined Olivetti. Ettore Sottsass is also known for his ceramic drawings. In 1973, he became one of the founding members of the Global Tools cooperative. In 1981, together with other Ettore Sottsass, he founded the Memphis group, which he left in 1988. In the 1980s, he set up the Sottsass Associati agency. Ettore Sottsass was a major figure in Radical Design in the 1970s and became one of the most important designers of Post-Modernism.
