English armchair by J.S. Henry, Arts and Crafts, late 19th century

MANUFACTURER: J.S. Henry

This high-backed mahogany armchair, an English piece from the late 19th century, is associated with the Arts and Crafts movement. It was produced by J.S. Henry. The top of the backrest is finished with a band inlaid with a geometric diamond pattern. The seat and backrest are studded. The seat fabric is slightly worn, as shown in the photographs. This armchair has a beautiful patina.

This chair model appears in a J.S. Henry advertisement dating from 1897, illustrated in Pauline Agius’s book *British Furniture 1880–1915*, on page 95.
